Boarded Christmas Eve in Melbourne en route to Mumbai (Bombay). For 3-4 days few passengers went to meals downstairs. People slept on stairs etc. I went out front to watch but wind was blowing eyes shut. Had to hang on to stanchion to avoid being blown off. Spent about 20 mins in calm of the eye. Heard we had lost power at one stage and were adrift. Not sure of details 61 years later. Was a Jesuit then on way to mission in Hazaribagh.

Travelled on this ship with my parents, Pentti Jaakko and Anna-Liisa Jokisalo, and my brother, Vesa Tapio. I was 7, exciting trip: we went through a cyclone in the Indian Ocean.
